Pastor Steve has been a bivocational pastor since 1996 and has practiced law since 1977. He came out of semi-retirement to serve the teaching and care needs of the family of God at FBC.
UNM awarded Pastor Steve his Juris Doctor degree in 1977, and he received his Master of Divinity (2009) and Doctor of Ministry (2015) degrees from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He is proud to be a New Mexico Aggie (BBA, 1973). Try telling him an Aggie or lawyer joke he hasn’t heard! The Lord has blessed Pastor Steve and his wife, Barbara, with two children and three grandchildren.
Pastor Steve is the author of From Gethsemane to the Cross, a chronological account of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion. His passion is teaching people to read and understand Scripture and guiding them through life’s challenges.
Pastor Steve is a trustee for Gateway Seminary of the SBC and an adjunct faculty member in its Doctor of Ministry program. He has served the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and the Central Baptist Association in many capacities.
He is a veteran and former cowboy who aspires to be a Taekwondo master like Pastor James or a Storm Chaser — but he’s thought better of it. He loves the sea and sailing.
