Christmas
by Nancy Hopper
The tree stands green and quiet.
Each ornament hangs thoughtfully.
The kitten is curled in the corner asleep.
The music plays softly
To the twinkle of the lights.
I consider gifts to wrap
And hum “Silent Night” once more.
I eat another cookie
Going out the door.
Winter has come.
Cold wind
and a little loneliness.
Hot stew and a hug.
A special day.
A special time.
Memories magical.
Christmas.
Cold, starry night.
Shepherds, angels
And a baby.
Christmas.
